I watch many Youtubers do hauls and reviews for Thredup. Thredup is an online thrift store where you can get unique new or secondhand items.
I decided to make a purchase on Thredup today (October 25th 2020.) after watching Youtuber Rachel Maksy show off her vintage pieces from their site.
I purchased these three items:
On their site you can filter through your size and other filter options like brands, styles and price like you would a regular shopping site.
On each ad they show you a crossed out price under your price, showing what the estimated retail price is of the item if brought from that brand at brand new condition.
On each of the ads they list the condition of the item (not seen in the shots above but it's there) and I think that's a great addition to an ad, especially for a thrift site, you want to know what an item is like before purchasing in case you mind or don't mind about certain "imperfections" of wear on said item.
So what I didn't know going into the site was that everything is priced in USD, so after making my purchase I was surprised by my receipt.
Speaking of my order the three items together came to 22 dollars, then 17 dollars for shipping, then adding tax, my order came out to 48 BUT I used a first time order coupon code that took off 10 dollars, so my order came out to 38 dollars. Then I converted my order from USD to CAD, showing my order actually cost me 52 dollars.
I was also told on the order that I would be paying duties and fees upon delivery and my order would take 7-9 business days.
Today is now November 4th and the package has arrived 8 business days later, not needing to be paid for further which I was very happy about.
This is the outfit I purchased:
Let's start with the top. I really liked the top it feels very lived in and wrinkly, which doesn't bother me much. I don't mind the fabric and I can unbutton the sleeves and push them up if I'd like and the colour is devine, I'm so into a lot of shades of green. I rate the top 4/5.
Next is the belt. This is a gorgeous fancy looking belt and a gorgeous style and colour. I want to wear it with everything I own haha. It fits really nice and goes well with both top and skirt. I rate the belt 5/5.
Lastly the skirt. I love the colour of course but I don't love the fabric and the pleats, I overlooked the texture when purchasing but it's just out of preference that I don't love this skirt but it is still nice looking just feels like a curtain almost. I rate the skirt 3.5/5.
Overall this outfit screams teacher and I love the outfit, I have to be honest that I didn't love the pieces together when looking in the mirror but after taking photos I started to really love it.
So my final thoughts on Thredup, I think it's a great thrift site but trying things on or being able to feel fabrics are an important part of shopping and shopping online doesn't allow that, unless you return items. I won't be returning the items I purchased as I am fairly pleased. I think Thredup is a bit expensive when factoring in any fees after your subtotal but thrifting isn't cheap like it used to be anyway. I am again thrilled I didn't have to pay any customs fees but I am unsure if I would use Thredup again, I will probably stick to thrifting in person. I have also read up that a lot of people prefer to use Thredup if they live in the USA as shipping is cheaper. I rate Thredup. 3.5/5.
Looks really good on you a proper lady 😋
